WNBL: Perth Lynx building season momentum with 87-68 win over Townsville

Toni Farnworth, Perth LynxWestern Suburbs Weekly

Welcome back for another Lynx update.

With no road trip this week, the team was able to get some much needed rest along with some tough training sessions in the lead up to our game against Townsville.

It was a great week for me personally as, after a series of appointments on Tuesday, I was cleared to take off my splint and start rehabbing my wrist.

This means I am one step closer to joining my teammates back on the court, which is particularly exciting given the style of basketball we are beginning to display.

That brings us to the game against Townsville.

To start the game, the girls put together their best quarter of the season bursting out of the gates to take a 29-10 lead.

We spent a lot of time during the week preparing for the problems Townville’s post players, Suzi Batkovic and Cayla George, posed.

In the first quarter the girls did a great job limiting their opportunities while also running Townville’s perimeter shooters off the three-point line.

As the game wore on, the girls responded to each of Townsville’s runs, eventually coming out with an 87-68 victory.

It was again a great team performance with Alice Kunek a standout, scoring 25 points including five three-pointers.

We are home again this week on Saturday at the Bendat Basketball Centre at 6.30pm to play the Canberra Capitals.

With momentum continuing to gather on our home court we will be looking to get another win before a number of upcoming games on the road.

But Canberra will be hungry looking to snap a streak of losses, so it is bound to be a tough contest.

See you all there!
