Western suburbs residents outraged by ‘stop white supremacy’ leaflet

Montana ArdonWestern Suburbs Weekly

Residents from Claremont to Mosman Park have received leaflets calling for a ‘White Privilege Tax’ and for action to stop heterosexual couples having white children.

The proposed tax is for an extra 15 per cent on individuals of white European origin earning more than $120,000 a year.

The leaflet also states “thousands of white people in Australia contribute to the racist culture of systematic oppression that hurts refugees and other minorities such as Muslims and the LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex) community”.

“We are also urging small acts of everyday activism to combat racism.

“Start by calling out people you see engaging in white same-race heterosexual relationships and especially those planning on having white children.”

A Mosman Park resident who did not want to be named described the proposed policy as “absurd” and “gutless.”

“It is typical they sneak around in the night to our letterboxes instead of talking face to face,” she said. “We tolerate everyone, but they won’t even consider how the majority of Australians feel.”

An angry Claremont businessman said it was pathetic the people behind the leaflet didn’t identify themselves during the day.

“If this is some kind of sick joke, it’s causing more division in the community,” he said.

Local Greens member Alison Xamon said the party did not know who was behind the leaflet, which included the Greens symbol, address and phone number.

“It was obviously designed to misrepresent the Greens’ policies,” the North West Metropolitan MLC said.

“It is appalling. It is cowardly behaviour and is deeply concerning as it has been done to spread fear.”

However, she suspected it was a far right wing group trying to cause trouble, and said the Greens had formally complained to the Australian Electoral Commission.

“It is quite clearly the work of people who have a fundamental problem with the Greens’ policies,” she said.

“We are considering our options, including whether to report it.”

The leaflets come after a number of ‘White Pride’ posters caused angst across Perth recently.

The Islamic Council of WA has been contacted for comment.
