What is WAfoodies? Why are we doing it?

Staff ReporterWestern Suburbs Weekly

WAfoodies is a comprehensive dining program – the result of a collaboration between Community News and OZeating.

WAfoodies is a membership-only rewards group that gets people back into local restaurants. Members of the program get special discounts at top Perth restaurants, earn points by using their WAfoodies card, and receive special gifts just for signing up!

The program is designed to be venue-friendly, meaning that discounts are designed by the restaurants themselves.

Other dining programs damage restaurants’ profit and ultimately don’t benefit local cafes, bars and eateries.

WAfoodies aims to promote the wellbeing of local venues by encouraging customers to frequent restaurants on quieter nights, and to become regulars instead of one-time visitors.

WAfoodies members also get insider access to OZeating, where they can earn points by writing reviews, creating featured content, and adding information about their favourite venues!

In the future, WAfoodies rewards will launch into food stores as well, to help get people back to local purveyors.

“There are so many dining deals, websites and apps damaging the industry and forcing restaurants to lower wages and quality of produce,” Ozeating chief technology officer Nicole Lee said.

“We’ve gone the other way, to get local businesses, industry and producers benefiting from something that also benefits our food-loving members.”

Community News’ partnership with OZeating is good news for our readers, too.

Each week we will highlight the best food advice, reviews and features in each of our 17 newspapers – plus you can browse the full online catalogue of content in our new digital food section going live next week.

Pick up your copy of next week’s local Community newspaper for your free one-month taste of the WAfoodies club.

The WAfoodies program is free to join for restaurants and cafes. If you would like to find out more about how you can benefit from this program, email your details to wafoodies@ozeating.com.au
