Tiny coin adds up to big sum

However, Bertram Primary School asked families and friends to donate their spare five-cent coins to a fundraiser and have collected more than $500.

The novel fundraiser was developed by teacher Abigail Flood, with money raised to help fund seating at the school’s swale.

‘The five-cent drive ran for just over five weeks with each learning area receiving a soft-drink bottle to attempt to fill,’ she said.

‘While none of the soft-drink bottles were filled, two came extremely close to raising over $80 each.
