Opinion: Italiano, Jardine holiday at ratepayers’ expense

Zoe Oefelein, ChurchlandsStirling Times

THANK you for reporting on the travel expenses of Cr Italiano and CEO Stuart Jardine.

I read it aloud to my father and we both had a good laugh at the gall of these men.

Jetting off to Spain for a conference on a business class ticket worth $8000 at ratepayers’ expense – what a great perk!

What time of year, I wonder? Will it be sunny? And is it purely business or does it extend into a proper European holiday?

And Mr Jardine’s $81,000 worth of international travel over seven years also made us howl. That’s $11,500 a year – all in the interests of ‘personal development’.

Just think what else that money could have funded for the community’s development and benefit, not Mr Jardine’s.

Surely, in this era of internet connectivity, these men can stay in touch with current trends online, rather than jetting around the world spending ratepayers’ contributions on their glorified holidays?

It’s good that you reported this and I really hope that others also complain and think about how better their money could be spent, because Mr Jardine and Mr Italiano certainly don’t.

ZOE OEFELEIN,

Churchlands.
