Election makes an exciting race

When nominations closed at 5pm on Thursday, 24

candidates had nominated for seven positions (including mayor) in Joondalup and 23 for eight in Wanneroo.

There is something exciting about a race thrown open to all every second year and people saying ‘here’s my experience, here’s what I’ve been up to, vote for me’.

When your ballot paper arrives in the post with a profile of each candidate, it will not be as long as the Senate’s at the

recent Federal election, and the process won’t be as complicated.

For local government elections the winner ” as in a horse race ” is first past the post.

The candidates have laid it on the line ” and what a great

responsibility and privilege it is to serve on a council.

Now it’s the people’s turn. When your election packages come in early October, make sure you vote.
