Walking the talk

Lucy Jarvis, North Coast TimesNorth Coast Times

Earlier this year, Scott Guerini took 80,254 steps over 12 hours and 40 minutes to cover 41km from his family farm to Southern Cross.

Brighton Catholic Primary School teacher Michelle Clayton said the Year 2 student had inspired the school community with his cause.

‘Scott (7) is a devoted follower of Telethon and has raised a considerable amount of money for this worthy cause, making annual walks from the family farm to Southern Cross, collecting donations along the way,’ she said.

‘This year Scott again made the trek of 41km but fell short of his monetary target.’

Ms Clayton said the school stepped up to help him walk some of the way, with every child from pre-primary to Year 6 and their teachers taking part in a walk on September 20.

They raised $500 to add to his total and celebrated with a shoe-shaped cake afterwards.

Over the past four years Scott has raised more than $47,000 for Telethon with his walks.
