A beach in the far northern suburbs is set to host Australian TV chef Miguel Maestre this Friday for a live cooking show for hundreds of local punters.

The free event will be held on Amberton Beach in Eglinton, 48km north of the CBD and in Stockland’s Amberton Estate.

It will celebrate the winner of Stockland’s recent online competition, in which West Australians were encouraged to submit their favourite summer recipes via Instagram.

Kingsley resident Caroline Roach was crowned the winner and will be Maestre’s taste tester as he cooks his culinary creations.

The competition saw home chefs from all over the State submitting hundreds of entries, with Ms Roach’s nectarine, burrata and prosciutto salad, summertime prawn sliders and BBQ tandoori chicken salad recipes winning the prize.

Ms Roach said she came across Stockland’s summer recipes competition on social media and was excited to enter her favourites.

She said she had a few recipes up her sleeve, having already started a food page on Instagram called @eatsbycaroline.

“I just cook for fun usually for my family and friends. I thought it’s a great opportunity, I’m cooking anyway and it is summer so I may as well give it a shot,” she said.

“Obviously I love Miguel also. I cooked a series of different recipes — just things that I would usually cook and Stockland chose me, so I was really excited and grateful.”

Ms Roach, whose day job is in marketing, said her passion for food stemmed from her Anglo-Indian background and her Instagram page was focused on simple and delicious meal ideas for her two children.

Ms Roach said she was most excited for the opportunity to try Maestre’s food and meet him in the flesh after watching him on TV.

Maestre, who is Stockland’s food ambassador, said the event would be a great chance to share his passion for food, friends and family alongside the Stockland Amberton Beach community.

He said he was looking forward to meeting his lucky taste tester in Ms Roach and bringing the community together over food.

“There is no better place to throw on the apron than Stockland Amberton Beach and its great location showcases the best of community living,” Maestre said.

“Some of my fondest food memories are cooking by the beach surrounded by friends and family, and I can’t wait to share this experience with my friends at Stockland’s beachside BBQ.”

Stockland WA development general manager Col Dutton said he was looking forward to seeing the community come together for an evening of great food.

“Events like this showcase the lifestyle that residents in our communities love, bringing together the Stockland Amberton Beach community and helping neighbours get to know each other a little better,” Mr Dutton said.

“There’s nothing that says WA quite like a BBQ by the beach and we’re excited to celebrate surrounded by good people and good food.”

The event will be held at Lighthouse Park, on the corner of Idyllic Viewand Celeste Street in Eglinton, from 5-7pm, with live entertainment, activities and food trucks.
