Census data confirms Mandurah’s reputation as a retiree destination

Mandurah’s reputation as a destination for retirees continues with the 2016 Census results.

Erskine was listed as Perth’s oldest suburb. The average age of Erskine residents is 59 years old.

Furnissdale took out second spot, with an average age of 56.

The average age of residents living in the Mandurah local government area was 43.

On Census night, there were 80,813 people in Mandurah: 48.5 per cent were male and 51.5 per cent were female.

There were 22,213 families, who had an average of 1.8 children.

The median weekly household income was $1162. About a quarter of Mandurah households had a weekly household income of less than $650 and 12.5 per cent of households had a weekly income of more than $3000.

The median monthly mortgage repayments were $1820. About 7 per cent of people were experiencing mortgage stress, with mortgage repayments greater than 30 per cent of household income.

Most people live in a separate house (81.6 per cent). Almost 20 per cent had three or more vehicles per dwelling, while the majority had one vehicle per dwelling (37.3 per cent).

More than 80 per cent of people have internet access to their home.
