City of Mandurah election: Williams wins Mayor

Rhys Williams is the new Mayor of Mandurah.

The votes are in and Mr Williams has won with 10,916.

Mr Williams beat out former Mayor Marina Vergone by 3502 votes.

Mrs Vergone told the Coastal Times she can “have a life again”.

Mr Williams won the West Australian Youth of the Year award in 2015.

He is the Chairman of the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre and Make Place.

He lost out by two votes to current Mayor Marina Vergone during the 2013 election.

At the previous election, only 31 per cent of eligible voters cast their ballot.

This election more than 40 per cent of people cast their vote.

The final count:

Mark Brzezinski: 1047

Peter Jackson: 2402

Rhys Williams: 10916

Marina Vergone: 7414
