A northern suburbs school is proud to be cheering on one of its own at this weekend’s Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

And in turn, popular driver Daniel Ricciardo will be hoping to make his former school, Newman College, proud by kick-starting his 2024 campaign with Team RB in Melbourne.

The school said this week the 34-year-old stood as a testament to the college’s commitment to nurturing dreams and fostering a sense of community.

A picture of him and his reflections are included on the school’s inspirational wall.

“Newman College is the only school I ever went to,” Ricciardo said.

“Family spirit has remained central to the way I’ve lived my life, and I was supported here in pursuing my dreams by my friends, teachers and the community.

“I believed in me - and they did, too.

“Believe in yourself. Be present in the moment, and love what you do.

“If doubt creeps in, find a way to shut it out and remind yourself that you belong here.”

Newman College principal Andrew Watson said the school extended its sincerest best wishes to the F1 pilot for a “successful and thrilling race” this weekend.

“Newman College stands behind you every step of the way,” he said.

“Whatever the outcome, his journey continues to inspire us all, showcasing the power of determination and the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to dream.”
