The streets of Subiaco will be taken to a new level during the Subi Blooms festival with the arrival of an internationally acclaimed art installation.

Stem by Stem — an interactive installation which joins art and floristry together — will be coming to Subiaco for a month to create an intriguing attraction for two weeks either side of the Subi Blooms festival, which is on Mother’s Day weekend.

Stem by Stem is the creation of Melbourne design studio ENESS, whose interactive pieces have been exhibited all over the world.

The artwork has been seen in Australia only once before and is coming to WA for the first time.

The installation features two six-by-three metre illuminated inflatable characters each holding an overflowing bouquet of flowers by one of Perth’s renowned floral artists, Sir Botanical.

The two lovable creatures play with visitors using motion tracking eyes, swirling colours and soft synth notes that intensify and fade as people move within the space.

Subiaco mayor David McMullen said he was excited at the success of Subi Blooms as it enters its sixth year.

“This popular event continues to flourish and this year it will be fantastic to see the large-scale Stem by Stem art piece added to the Subi Blooms map,” he said.

“I invite everyone to come down to Subiaco to see the art piece for yourself and to soak up the creativity of local florists in the Subi Blooms weekend from May 10 to 12.”

Meet Stem by Stem on Seddon Street from April 19 to May 19.
