Stand’ In Room: Claremont cafe hopes to move ahead of potential $65m redevelopment

Harriet FlinnPerthNow - Western Suburbs

A popular cafe in Claremont is looking to move to the town’s community centre ahead of a possible multi-million dollar redevelopment on Bay View Terrace.

Stand’ In Room, which has been tucked in alongside Dolce Bellissimo in the bustling strip shopfront for eight years, is awaiting final sign-off on the move after public consultation by the Town of Claremont ends.

The Claremont community centre may be only 350m down the road but the location would be substantially more spacious than its current venue, as well as offering a possibility to expand outdoors.

It comes as a decision looms on a $65m redevelopment plan that will encapsulate more than 70m of shopfront along Bay View Terrace, with the final decision currently sitting with State planners after the application secured council support in December.

The major mixed use development would include a 30-room hotel, 46 build-to-rent apartments, medical consulting rooms, 16 commercial and retail tenancies and basement parking.

The development plans indicate the street’s existing shopfronts will remain but Stand’ In Room’s shift would put it ahead of the major works in Bay View Terrace.

People can have their say on Stand’ In Room’s proposed five-year lease at the community centre until April 11.
