Earlier this afternoon, Kwinana Freeway traffic was being held up while two cars involved in the crash were removed from high tension guard rails in Casuarina.

A WA Police spokesman said authorities were waiting for Main Roads to help remove the cars.

The crash happened at 2.20pm and resulted in both lanes south of the freeway southbound near Thomas Road being closed.

A St John Ambulance WA spokeswoman said a man in his 80s had been transported to Peel Health Campus with minor injuries.

A photograph shared on Facebook shows one car lying on its side.

Traffic was reportedly banked up for kilometres north of the scene, just 200m south of the Thomas Road exit.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area if possible.
