Opinion: Affirmation over prayer another Orwellian move

Amy Harry, InnalooEastern Reporter

I was thoroughly offended to learn that Councillor Samantha Jenkins is pushing for an ‘affirmation’ to open Council Meetings, versus an opening prayer (page 4, Stirling Times September 26 ).

I was offended in part, because the article claimed that this ‘option’ would be considered at the meeting that night, leaving little chance for community feedback.

This appears to be yet another work of the politically correct minority.

Is the 70 per cent to allow this vocal 30 per cent ‘no- religion’ group to make ‘erasure’ of prayer to God, Orwellian style?

It also escapes me, why some insist that Reconciliation Action Plans must be synonymous with secularisation.

I know too many religious Indigenous people who know that God created Earth.

Why assume that what census has found across Australia is relevant for our strong multi- faith community of Stirling?
