Waves of Dockers hysteria hit the city

More than 43,000 fans packed into Subiaco Oval for the match, while pubs in Fremantle streamed the game live to all those who missed out, almost running out of beer in the process.

After a wasteful first quarter that saw the Dockers kick just 2.9 whilst still dominating the Swans, the Dockers tightened the screws, putting on one of the best defensive shows seen in the AFL this season to keep Sydney to just one behind in the second quarter while kicking 5.2 themselves.

The result was a 39-point lead at half time that had many Fremantle fans doing what they had never done before; thinking ahead to a purple grand final.

The third quarter was even better for Fremantle, which extended the lead out to six goals.

By the fourth quarter, the game was in the bag. The Dockers took the foot off the gas to preserve players for the Grand Final, and the Mexican wave flew through the ground, as well as forceful chants of ‘MCG, MCG’.

It was chaos in the streets of Fremantle after the final siren, as Fremantle fans streamed out of pubs onto the streets.
