FORMER WA Governor Ken Michael presented a Paul Harris Fellowship award to Beechboro residents Thomas (12) and Thea Campbell (10) last month for their outstanding service to Rotary.

Along with parents Tristan and Blaine and grandmother Wendy, the youngest generation of Campbells have raised more than $5000 a year for Rotary through their beekeeping business and other contributions.

“Rotary has always played a major part in our family,” Tristan, who is a co-director of the club’s Community Services Division, said.

The Campbells involvement with Rotary started in 1939 when Wendy’s grandfather, William Brine senior, became a very active member until he died in 1971.

“My grandfather was president during the war years which was a very tough time in Perth,” Wendy said.

“But his determination to meet any challenge was demonstrated both as a businessman running a building company and as a Rotarian.”

William Brine senior’s son, William junior, joined Rotary in 1958 and helped drive a state-wide fund raising project to establish the UWA Medical School.

His brother John, a full time medical practitioner, was a Rotarian from 1967 until 1990, contributing to the Medical School project.

In 2004, Wendy joined Rotary and has been involved in various club activities including being Membership Services director.

“It was a great thrill when my son Tristan and his wife Blaine joined Rotary in 2011 and an even bigger thrill when their two children decided to pitch in and help in any way they could,” Wendy said.
