Coca Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar: what’s all the fizz about?

Emily BoneyEastern Reporter

HAVE you ever been drinking Coke and thought ‘man, I would love some coffee with this’?

No? Too bad. After the success of its Coke Plus Ginger, the soft drink giant is trying a new concoction and testing it out on Aussies. If we buy it, who knows? Perhaps it will seem normal in a few months.

Dutifully, I made my way to the nearest one, but was disappointed to find only “normal” flavours available – vanilla, classic, diet, what have you.

Undeterred, I poked my head into the local IGA where… bingo! For $3.95, it’s at least cheaper than your average double shot flat white, but doesn’t have quite as much caffeine.

So pick your poison.

Upon cracking it open, I was greeted by a chocolate-y smell mixed with the familiar cola carbonation.

I wasn’t completely taken aback, but I was surprised that it didn’t really smell much like coffee.

A sip further confirmed my suspicions.

Coca Cola Plus Coffee No Sugar is essentially chocolate soda.

If that doesn’t sound appealing to you, definitely give it a miss.

Thinking the word “coffee” as I drink it helps, but still doesn’t convince me.

Cola-chocolate just isn’t a great combination, I’m sorry to say. If it were, I’m sure we all would have discovered it much sooner.

It does significantly wake you up though, if you manage to drink a whole 600ml bottle.
