Anzac Day 2024: Plenty of opportunities to pay respects at services in City of Mandurah and Shire of Murray

Laura PondMandurah Times

Locals have plenty of opportunities to commemorate Anzac Day this year, with a range of events throughout Mandurah and Murray.

The City of Mandurah RSL will host a dawn service at the Mandurah War Memorial on the Western Foreshore in Halls Head on Thursday morning. It is open to veterans, their families and descendants, residents and visitors.

The service will start at 6am, with a call to order at 5.55am, and will be followed by a $5 gunfire breakfast provided by Mandurah Lions Club.

Attendees will be invited to the RSL’s Greenfields headquarters from noon for refreshments.

Locals can also join RSL Dawesville for a dawn service at the Dawesville War Memorial on Estuary Drive from 6am, followed by a gunfire breakfast hosted by the Port Bouvard Recreation and Sporting Club.

The Pinjarra RSL will host two commemorations — a dawn service from 6am at the Pinjarra War Memorial followed by a gunfire breakfast, and a 10.30am service starting at Pinjarra Town Square walking to the war memorial.

After the mid-morning service, people can head to the RSL hall for a sausage sizzle, raffles, two-up and entertainment by the Perth Highland Pipe Band.

Dwellingup RSL will hold its service on Thursday at 10.30am.

Coolup Progress Association’s annual Anzac Day eve service will run from 5pm on Wednesday, starting with a march featuring a Light Horse display and bagpipers from Coolup Store to the war memorial, followed by a service and light supper.
