ONE of the area’s newest football clubs has been dubbed the East Fremantle District Junior Football Club of the Year.

In just its third season the Piara Waters Junior Football Club has taken out the district’s top honours, recognised for the successful launch of an under-12 girls team and giving more than 500 players a family-friendly local club to be a part of.

Piara Waters JFC president Elena Mustard said the award was great recognition, especially for the countless volunteers who spent hours making sure local children could play football.

“We have a wonderful committee who go above and beyond to make sure our kids can play footy locally,” she said.

“We also have a great group of talented kids and supportive parents and without them turning up every Sunday, we would not exist.”

In a double celebration for the club, purchasing co-ordinator Greg Webber was also named Club Volunteer of the Year.

“Greg has been a very valuable member of our committee who has helped design and purchase our fantastic uniforms and has established some important partnerships with suppliers,” Ms Mustard said.

“Because of parents like Greg, our club is growing into a wonderful place for children to learn to play football and be part of their local community.”
