Willetton Senior High School’s new classrooms setting higher standard for education

Matt ZisPerthNow - Canning

Premier Roger Cook this week got a first-hand look at Willetton Senior High School’s new classrooms that are taking learning up a level.

The 22 new general classrooms plus an inclusive education classroom are in a three-storey block that can accommodate more than 500 students for their maths, English, health and physical education lessons.

The block — which was formally opened this week — also has breakout social spaces for students and facilities such as changerooms.

Education Minister Tony Buti called in an impressive facility that would help further enhance the outstanding results achieved by students at the school.

Multi-storey classrooms have long been touted as the answer to burgeoning student numbers in inner city suburbs. Willetton is one of WA’s largest public schools, with more than 2000 students.

Work is also continuing on a major upgrade to nearby Rossmoyne Senior High School. By the start of next year, 26 new classrooms, eight new science labs, a new library and a new fitness centre are expected to be ready for use.
