Local Muslim community to join forces with City of Canning in effort to ‘break barriers’ around religion

As Muslim worshippers across the country celebrate Eid Al-Fitr this week to mark the end of Ramadan, an exhibition of the faith will be held in Cannington.

Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Perth local leader Imran Rana hopes the event will draw people from all religions to the local library, where he is offering an open discussion forum for any and all questions about the Islamic faith.

“We are hoping that there will be people from different faiths including Islam or Christianity or Hinduism,” he said.

More than 30 translations of the Quran will be on display — including in English, European languages and Maori — for the entire month of April, with discussion dates hosted on April 6, 13, 20 and 27.

And no question will be out of bounds for the faith-based group.

“Through this platform, we invite the community to throw their toughest questions at us or any topic really that they wish to explore, allowing us to dispel myths and enhancing awareness about the most misunderstood faith of our time,” Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Perth president Anjum Qaisrani said.

Mr Imran said the holy month of Ramadan would be central to the discussion forums.

“People may want to know why Muslims fast,” he said.

“Obviously when you fast, you are refraining from your rights, your legal right and your religious rights.

“We will educate them that it is not only Muslims that fast ... even Christians fast, even Hindus fast.”
