Staff WriterEastern Reporter

A POPULAR brand of fire alarms have been recalled across the country due to their potential inability to detect smoke.

Perth residents who purchased a Quell branded dual sensor smoke alarm between November 2016 and April 2018 have been urged to check their alarms.

Alarms were sold at Bunnings, Mitre 10, Anaconda, Officeworks, Masters and at independent hardware retailers.

The recall only includes units containing a yellow protective cap.

In some products, a yellow protective cap may have been left on one of the two smoke sensors during the manufacturing process.

The yellow protective cap compromises the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke, which can increase the risk of injury and property damage in the event of a fire.

Consumers with a Quell QPI9010 Dual Sensor Smoke Alarm should inspect the alarm for the presence of a yellow cap (click here for details).

If no yellow cap is present, consumers should reinstall the smoke alarm and no further action is needed.

If a yellow cap is present, consumers should contact Quell to receive a free replacement.

Consumers should not attempt to take apart the alarm, open the casing, or otherwise remove the yellow cap themselves.

They should reinstall the smoke alarm and only return the affected smoke alarm after they receive and install the replacement.

Consumers can contact Quell on 1800 654 435 or by email at quell-recall@chubb.com.au.
